Postal Family Fund’s Home Laptop Grant supporting Tristan with his school work

Please meet Tristan who was awarded a Postal Family Fund Home Laptop Grant to support his school work.  We spoke to his dad David about how the bursary has impacted Tristan’s learning.

Why did you apply for the Postal Family Fund Home Laptop Grant?

Tristan only had access to a mobile phone for doing his homework.  We applied for the grant because Tristan will be starting his core GCSE year’s next school year and access to a laptop will be a big improvement over doing his homework and coursework on a small mobile phone screen.

What impact has the bursary had?

A decent quality laptop was an expense that I couldn’t currently afford. Having received a laptop through the home laptop scheme has helped considerably. Tristan finds doing his homework on the laptop is better and more convenient than using a mobile phone. He also has access to programs currently not available on a mobile device such as Sketchup which he uses for design technology which is one of his chosen GCSEs.

He also shares the laptop with his sister who joined high school this year, so it has benefited the whole family.

What would you like to say to other postal workers thinking about applying for a Postal Family Fund Home Laptop Grant?

I would recommend the Postal Family Fund to any colleagues that qualify for it. The fund has been a big help to me and my family when we needed it. Having successfully applied for their home laptop grant, my son and daughter can now do their homework with ease and it will be a big asset when they come to do their GCSE coursework in the coming years.
