Rachel has just graduated from her English with Creative Writing Degree

Please meet Rachel, who has just completed her English with Creative Writing degree at Queens University, supported by the Postal Family Fund University bursary.  We caught up with Rachel and her postal worker mum, Tara.

Tara, why did you decide to apply for this bursary?

I applied for this bursary for Rachel who was going to be studying English with Creative writing in Queens University Belfast. Rachel has a very creative mind and has a passion for Arts and languages. She always surprises me with her phenomenal stories and paintings. I thought applying for the bursary would help Rachel with her day-to-day finances and give her peace of mind as she wouldn’t need to work long hours to pay for her course and fees. She has a few anxiety issues so not having the financial burden definitely helped to ease this.

Rachel, what impact has the Postal Family Fund university bursary had?

The University Bursary has really helped me get through my course without many financial worries.  It allowed me to focus on my studies.  It has aided me in buying the necessary books and materials for my English course and travel costs to and from the university.  I am currently working part time but looking for full time artistic ventures to put my course and my interests to good use.  It has been a great help and I would recommend to anyone who can apply.

Tara, would you recommend the Postal Family Fund university bursary scheme to others?

Getting the bursary and going to university has increased Rachel’s confidence and she seems more sure of her decisions. Every year I tell as many colleagues as possible about this fantastic opportunity.
