Finley has been selected for South Yorkshire U12s and is pursuing his cricket dreams

Please meet Finley who was awarded a Postal Family Fund Rising Stars bursary. Finley was selected to play for South Yorkshire U12s and now dreams of being a cricket coach.  We spoke to his postal worker dad Daniel about how the bursary has impacted the family.

Why did you apply for the Postal Family Fund bursary?

We applied because my son is obsessed with playing cricket and wants to see if he has a career in the sport. Cricket is an expensive sport and so we needed help in order for him to keep going towards his goals.

What impact has the bursary had?

It has been a life changer for my son. With the bursary we were able to pay for his coaching sessions which ultimately helped him to be selected to play for South Yorkshire U12s! The bursary also then paid for his kit as well as the travel that we had to do as a regional player.  We spent all summer travelling around Yorkshire playing against the other regional sides. The snowball effect of playing regional cricket is that he is now eligible, a year earlier than is normal, to play adult cricket! So he has now played 3 games of Adult Cricket, including taking 5 Wickets on his bowling debut(!), which without the support of the bursary he wouldn’t have had the opportunity to do.

What would you like to say to other postal workers thinking about applying for a Rising Star bursary?

I would 100 percent recommend anyone to apply for the Postal Family Fund, it has changed my son’s life so much for the better. Through the extra things this bursary has allowed us to do, he has had experiences he never would have had. He is so much more confident and outgoing than he was and has a clear idea in his head now of what he wants his future life to look like. It’s fair to say this grant has been life changing for my son and our family.
